TVR Chimaera 400 For Sale. Year: 1996. Price: £12,500
TVR Chimaera 400 finished in Starmist silver with Navy roof and matching leather interior. Pas, HPI clear, 2 keys, 2 alarm fobs (1brand new)
This is a unique opportunity to purchase a car that has been stored in a dry heated TVR specialist showroom for the last 10 years and the condition of the paint and interior reflect this, but more importantly so does the condition of the chassis which I had the chance to check over thoroughly prior to purchase at Scole Engineering ( the previously mention specialist ) and it is in amazing condition and has never been welded so is as strong as it was the day it left the factory with only minor powder coat flacking in one small area. This cars chassis also benefits from the silver powder coating which is believed to be better than the later white powder coating on newer models. The chassis is also freshly waxoyled to protect it.
The cars year means it also benefits from the stronger T5 gearbox and serpentine engine which has covered only 54,500 miles and is completely standard as is the rest of the car making it a great future investment. The car starts hot or cold with no issue and pulls strong in every gear with no sign of burning oil or funny smells .This car is also with out a doubt the best Chimaera I have driven and the third in my ownership.
The only exception to the standard statement are: brand new Calibre wheels with yokohama ad08 tyres. 16 front 17 rears. Also the centre exhaust box has been sleeved to enhance the sound. both of these minor mods are easily reversed.
The car will come with a fresh mot and oil change. Prior to selling on Scole Engineering carried out extensive recommissioning and the car has covered very few miles since. I have a letter to back up this story from them and Im sure they would be only to happy to speak to a perspective buyer. Scole are based in Diss and are well respected by the local Suffolk and Norfolk TVR car club.
Very minor bad points I would correct if keeping the car to make if perfect:
The roof Targa panel is a little tired but is perfectly serviceable. Also over the years of storage the drivers seat has minor cracking and would benefit from a recolouring. I believe the price reflects these minor issues.
I am selling this beauty as I want to trade up to a more powerful TVR but must be convertible or Targa roofed.

The TVR Chimaera is the entry point to the TVR model range. It has been designed to be every bit as much of a Grand Tourer as a sports car with the emphasis being evenly split between ride and handling, torque and horsepower, practicality and light weight. At the same time as BBC Top Gear magazine was enthusing that the "TVR completely blitzes the opposition, in any gear, from any speed to any speed", Autocar was attesting that "the Chimaera is great fun to drive even when you're just tootling along." Ten years of development have resulted in the perfect evolution of the breed.
The Chimaera has evolved into the ideal embodiment of the modern British sports car. The car is a piece of aerodynamic sculpture, not designed on a computer, which is immediately obvious on first sight. Great emphasis has been placed on purity of line with no external fuel filler cap, boot release or even door handles as the doors open on the press of buttons under the door mirrors. In 2001, the car was lightly facelifted and now features a new nose with faired-in headlights and a mildly restyled tail. It was of the Chimaera that Jeremy Clarkson wrote "Its spacious cockpit is a dream too, with wood, leather and polished aluminium styled by someone who truly understands interior design." The new Cerbera-style seats of the Chimaera are leather as standard and feature a removable squab for when you want extra lateral support on the racetrack. The Chimaera also now boasts all aluminium switchgear as well as comprehensive instrumentation of you can specify the colour. This is part of an almost bewildering array of choices that customers make when ordering a car which include ten thousand colours for the paintwork, more than forty for the leather, fourteen for the carpet, five for the hood, twenty for the stitching and even five different materials for the dashboard from burr walnut to engine-turned aluminium.
